Samsung UN55C8000 is a new series 3DTV released in 2010. The series features 3D capability in a slim design as brought by the LED lighting technology. Its 3D system is compatible with multiple 3D formats and provides accessibility to multiple 3D content sources.This 55-inch LED TV comes with many new features, one of them is the “Active Shutter 3D technology” as developed by Samsung. This full HD 1080p 240 Hz TV is one of the thinnest 55-inch models as available in the market.

Review on Samsung UN55C8000

To begin reviewing it, we better first look at its outlook. With depth of only 23.9mm, it is one of the smallest and lightest 55-inches TV that have ever seen. Similar with other Samsung models, it comes with a touch-sensitive control.

3D picture quality

Watching the 3D movie “Monsters vs Aliens” and playing with the Samsung BDP-C6900 3D Blue ray player, we are greatly impressed by the excellent 3D effects UN55C8000 delivers. The active shutter technology is able to deliver full 1080p resolution. As claimed by Samsung, UN55C8000 can convert any 2D content source to 3D. How about the performance of the 3D converter? Our comment is that it can give a bit of extra depth for regular TV content and many movies, however, the effect is not too significant. Effects on video games are better as we found.

2D picture quality

You will have plenty opportunities to watch 2D movies and other 2D video content with the TV. So how about the 2D picture quality of UN55C8000? Our testing results show that it delivers truly amazing 2D picture quality in almost all situations! It can generate super rich color reproduction, high levels of contrast and sharp details. Apart form that, smooth motion processing feature was added on board by Samsung. We have tested the performance and found it worked great under different circumstances to prevent motion judder and blur.

Only an aspect that we are not fully satisfied was the presentation of skin tones by the TV. Faces are looked a little bit “off” when it comes to skin color. It is not fixed by adjusting the TV settings as we tried.

Other Features of UN55C8000

Decent sound effects are delivered by the two 15W speakers of UN55C8000. Other major features include two USB video ports, music playback, and TV recording functions. With the TV recording, you can record any TV content by linking up a regular USB storage device on it. Samsung UN55C8000 further comes with DLNA to process streaming media content, and for selection of various web-connected widgets. Connectivity of the TV is great as contributed by the four HDMI v1.4 sockets in addition to the component video input.
